Uramaki sushi

Also known as inside out california rolls.

Uramaki literally translates to "inside out" roll - this is because they have the same components as maki sushi, except the sushi rice is the outer layer, with the nori and fillings inside. These are a little more of a challenge, but great fun to try and make!

Place cling film on your rolling mat.

Place the sheet of nori on top of the cling film and spread sushi rice like shown in the illustration.

Once the rice is on nori, flip the nori and rice over so the rice is face down, touching the cling film.

Add your choice of ingredients to the centre of the nori.

Roll like normal, but peel back the cling film as you roll.

Remove the rolling mat and cling film, and slice the sushi roll into segments. Optionally, roll these in black sesame seeds to finish the dish.
