Give the gift of sushi

Put on your favourite Christmas playlist and enjoy making this fun festive recipe with friends and family!

60 mins Serves 2-3

Ingredients

  • 100g smoked salmon (sliced in squares)
  • 2 sheets of Sushi Nori
  • 1 avocado, chopped into small cubes
  • 3 tsp Wasabi Paste
  • Sushi Soy Sauce (for dipping)
  • White Roasted Sesame Seeds
  • Black Roasted Sesame Seeds

For the rice:

  • 150g Sushi Rice
  • 3 tbsp Rice Vinegar
  • 1 tsp salt

You will need a large ice cube tray mould.

Instructions

  1. Cook your Sushi Rice according to the instructions on the box. Once done, place the rice in the fridge to cool.
  2. Whilst waiting, you can slice your salmon and cut your avocado. Cut the nori into your desired festive shapes – we went for ribbons and stars!
  3. It’s best to make the gifts one by one so the cling film doesn’t get tangled up. Press a layer of cling film into each mould cavity, leaving enough excess to fold over the top once filled.
  4. Next, add your layers of filling.
  5. For spicy salmon sushi presents, start by adding the stars to the salmon and then pressing in a square piece. Follow this with a layer of Sushi Rice, a small bit of Wasabi and a final layer of Sushi Rice. Press down with each rice layer so that the cube is compact.
  6. For sesame sushi, mix Black and White Roasted Sesame Seeds together with your Sushi Rice. Add two nori strips to form the present ribbons and fill half of the cube with this mix. Then add your small bits of avocado, before filling the rest of the cube with more sesame rice mix.
  7. Fold the excess cling wrap to close the gift and press down to create a flat top.
  8. Repeat this process for each gift. We made 3 salmon and 3 sesame gifts, but you can get creative!
